Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's official visit to China is scheduled to start from March 17th. During her last term, she had undertaken an official visit to China within two months of taking office which was also her first official overseas visit. Whether this delay reflects any displeasure the Chinese have with Bangladesh can only be a subject of speculation. Row Over Women's Quota in Indian Parliament

McHale Sees Positive Side of Islam in Bangladesh
MS. Judith A McHale, US Under Secretary of State for Public Affairs, who was recently in Dhaka, is the senior most ranking US Government official to visit Bangladesh since President Obama took office in USA and Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh. During her public engagements, she made some remarks that are very encouraging for Bangladesh. In Dhaka University she said that US would take 20,000 students every year from Bangladesh where at the moment, the intake is far fewer.

Afghanistan: An Exit Strategy?
BRITAIN, Afghanistan and the United Nations co-hosted the 70-nation International Conference on Afghanistan in London on January 28. The main themes of the daylong conference were: security; governance and development; and regional support. Actually, the focus of the discussion was on reintegrating the Taliban into the current political system of Afghanistan, and devising a strategy for Western forces to quit Afghanistan. This conference came ten months after the one held in The Hague on March 31, 2009.
